Omron E3Z-D87 is a photoelectric diffuse sensor using an infrared LED with a 1 m sensing range. It switches PNP normally open and operates on 12-24 V DC. Output is via an M8 4-pin connector. The housing is PBT with IP67 protection and a denatured polyarylate sensing face.
Shing in the panel
Fairly compact at 20 g and 10 x 20 x 35 mm, so it takes up minimal space on a bracket or machine frame. Wiring is straightforward: M8 4-pin, PNP output, normally open. Ambient temperature range -30 to 55°C covers most indoor packaging lines. Potentiometer adjustment on the body for sensitivity on diffuse mode.
Diffuse vs through-beam: E3Z-LT81
The E3Z-LT81 is a through-beam (emitter + receiver) pair with red laser, rated 60 m – not a functional swap. The E3Z-D87 is a single-unit diffuse sensor for short-range retroreflective-free detection; they serve different sensing geometries. If your panel was wired for E3Z-LT81, rework is needed.
