What this controller handles
The Omron E5CC-RX2DBM-004 is a 1/16 DIN panel-mount process and temperature controller that accepts RTD and a wide range of thermocouples (Types B, E, J, K, L, N, PLII, R, S, T, U, W) plus 0–20 mA or 0–10 VDC linear process signals. The input range spans -200°C to 2300°C for thermocouples and the full 0–20 mA / 0–10 VDC scale for process inputs — so it handles everything from a cryogenic bath to a high-temp furnace on the same unit. Three relay outputs give you independent control of heating, cooling, and an alarm or event output. The control method is selectable between on/off and full PID with auto-tuning, which is the typical choice for thermal processes where overshoot matters. The dual-row LCD shows four characters per row with 0.600" and 0.280" character heights, so the process value and setpoint are readable from a few feet back on a panel.
Power and communications
Runs on 24 VAC or 24 VDC — one supply rail covers both, which simplifies panel wiring if you already have a 24 VDC power supply for PLCs or sensors. No separate AC control transformer needed. Built-in RS-485 supports both Omron CompoWay/F and Modbus RTU protocols. That means it talks directly to a PLC or SCADA without an extra communications module. Default baud rate and parity are set via the front-panel menu; no DIP switches to flip.
Strip length is 8 mm. For thermocouple input, use the same thermocouple-grade wire right up to the terminal — the spring clamp holds fine, but the junction must be at the measurement point, not at the controller. The front panel is rated IP66, so it withstands washdown and dust ingress in food, beverage, or chemical processing environments. The rear of the housing is not sealed — the IP rating applies only when properly gasketed against the panel cutout. Panel cutout is 45.0 mm square, the standard 1/16 DIN footprint.
