Universal input, mixed output — one controller for most loops
The Omron E5CC-TCQ3A5M-003 is a panel-mount process and temperature controller that accepts RTD, thermocouple (Types B, E, J, K, L, N, PLII, R, S, T, U, W), 0–20 mA, and 0–10 VDC inputs — covering nearly every common sensor type in a single unit. That means one BOM line for a whole skid, regardless of whether the loop reads a Pt100, a Type K TC, or a 4-20 mA pressure transmitter. Its output complement — one analog output plus three relays plus a voltage pulse for an external SSR — lets it drive a modulating valve, alarm contacts, and a solid-state heater contactor from one 45 mm square cutout. The analog channel handles the fine control; the relays cover high/low alarms or on/off stages.
RS-485 with Modbus and heater fault detection
The built-in RS-485 port speaks both CompoWay/F and Modbus RTU, so it drops into most PLC or SCADA networks without a protocol converter. For a commissioning engineer mapping I/O, the Modbus register map is standard Omron — no surprises. Heater fault detection is included as a standard feature, not an add-on option. It monitors the current draw of the heater load and flags a broken element or failed SSR before the process drifts — useful for electric kilns, ovens, and extruder barrel heaters where an undetected open heater means a scrap batch. The front panel carries a dual-color LCD backlight with two rows of four characters each — 0.600" (15.20 mm) for the main PV and 0.280" (7.10 mm) for the SV or status line. The IP66 rating on the front face means it handles washdown spray in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical panels without a separate cover.
