What it is and what it does
The Omron E5EC-CQ4D5M-010 is a panel-mount process/temperature controller in the E5EC family, accepting RTD and a wide range of thermocouples (B, E, J, K, L, N, PLII, R, S, T, U, W) plus 0–20 mA and 0–10 VDC linear inputs. That means one part number covers everything from cryogenic baths (-200°C) up to high-temperature furnace loops (2300°C), with no sensor-specific module swaps. Output side: one analog output, four relay outputs, and a voltage output for an external SSR. The tri-color LCD displays three rows of four characters each. Powered from 24 VAC or 24 VDC, common in control panel supplies. The IP66 front panel means it hoses down on washdown zones; the screw terminals accept stranded or solid wire without a separate base.
How it compares to the E5CC siblings
The E5CC siblings ship with RS-485 serial (CompoWay/F, Modbus) as standard; the E5EC does not list any serial communications in its spec – it's a standalone controller. If your BOM calls for PLC polling, this is not a direct pop-in. On the plus side, the E5EC gives you a tri-color display (the E5CC is dual-color) and an analog output plus four relays plus SSR voltage – the E5CC-RX has only four relays, no analog. If you need to drive a chart recorder or a drive setpoint, the E5EC saves you an external converter.
