The Omron E5EC-CX4A5M-014 is a process and temperature controller from the E5EC series, accepting inputs from RTDs and thermocouples (B, E, J, K, L, N, PLII, R, S, T, U, W) as well as 0–20 mA or 0–10 VDC analog signals. It has four relay/analog outputs for controlling heaters, valves, or alarms, plus an event input for external triggers. The tri-color LCD shows four characters per row, and the controller communicates via RS-485 using CompoWay/F or Modbus protocols. A rectangular 92 × 45 mm panel cutout is required, and the front face is rated IP66 for washdown environments.
How it compares to the 45 mm square E5CC
The most frequent cross-shop candidate is the smaller E5CC-CX3A5M-004, also from Omron. That unit fits a 45 × 45 mm square cutout and provides three relay/analog outputs instead of four. The E5EC uses the same operating range and universal input, but the larger rectangular footprint gives an extra control channel and a taller display (18 mm versus 15.2 mm for the top row). If your panel layout has a 92 × 45 mm slot and you need four outputs, the E5EC drops straight in. If you’re replacing an E5CC, the cutout is different — no easy swap without panel modification.
Integration notes
Mount the unit in a panel with the rectangular 92 × 45 mm cutout. Use screw terminals for power (100–240 VAC) and all wiring. The RS-485 bus defaults to CompoWay/F; set Modbus via the menu. The tri-color backlight can be programmed to change on alarm or process condition. The event input can be used to latch a second setpoint or reset latched alarms. Operating temperature is –10 to 55°C; derate display brightness at the high end. IP66 front tightens against hose-down, but the rear terminals remain behind the panel.
