Panel fit and field wiring
The E5EC-CX4D5M-014: Panel cutout is 92.00 mm x 45.00 mm — the standard 1/4 DIN footprint, so it drops into existing holes without re-punching the panel. Termination is via screw terminals, not spring-cage; expect to torque the connections per the manual if the panel sees vibration. Runs on 24 VAC/DC — common in control cabinets, no separate 240 VAC tap needed. The IP66 front face means it handles washdown spray on the panel door, but the rear terminals are not sealed.
What the inputs and outputs actually do
Accepts RTD, thermocouple types B/E/J/K/L/N/PLII/R/S/T/U/W, plus 0-20 mA or 0-10 VDC process signals — covers most industrial loops without an external signal conditioner. Four outputs: one analog (4-20 mA or 0-10 V for a valve/SCR drive) plus three relays. That is enough for a heat/cool loop with a high/low alarm, or a cascade pair with a remote setpoint. Control method is On/Off or full PID — the PID autotune handles the loop tuning on startup, saving the integrator from manual Ziegler-Nichols.
Communications and the event input
RS-485 port speaks both Omron CompoWay/F and Modbus RTU — it talks directly to a PLC or SCADA without a protocol converter. Address and baud rate set via the front panel. The event input (digital) lets a remote dry contact start/stop control or acknowledge alarms without opening the door — useful when the controller is inside a sealed panel.
