The Omron E5EC-PR4A5M-004 is a 1/4 DIN panel-mount process and temperature controller that accepts RTD and a wide range of thermocouple types (B, E, J, K, L, N, PLII, R, S, T, U, W) plus 0–20 mA or 0–10 VDC linear inputs, covering process signals from -200°C up to 2300°C. Six relay outputs give you independent control and alarm channels, and the RS-485 port speaks both CompoWay/F and Modbus, so it drops into existing PLC networks without a protocol converter. The IP66-rated front panel means it stands up to washdown spray in food-and-bev or pharmaceutical lines — the kind of environment where a standard controller would fog up or let moisture creep in through the keypad seal.
The 92 mm × 45 mm rectangular panel cutout is the standard 1/4 DIN footprint — fits the same punch-out as any E5EC or E5AC controller, so no rework if you're swapping one in. Screw-terminal termination keeps wiring straightforward for panel builders; no special crimp tool or ferrule size to track. The tri-color LCD backlight shows three rows of four characters each, with the top row characters 18 mm tall — readable from across a machine cell.
Control method and event input
On/off and PID control methods are both on board — the PID loop handles most thermal processes, while on/off is there for simple level or limit applications. The event input lets an external dry contact trigger a pre-programmed setpoint change or start/stop the control output, useful for recipe switching or interlocking with a safety circuit.
