What this controller does in a panel
The Omron E5EC-QR4A5M-009 is a panel-mount process and temperature controller from the E5EC series, handling RTD and thermocouple inputs (types B, E, J, K, L, N, PLII, R, S, T, U, W) plus 0–20 mA and 0–10 VDC linear signals. That range — -200°C to 2300°C for temperature, plus the analog inputs — means it covers everything from cryogenic monitoring to high-temp furnace control on a single part number. The control method switches between On/Off and proportional (PID), so it fits both simple limit alarms and closed-loop regulation. Five relay outputs handle on-off switching, while the voltage output drives an external SSR for solid-state power control — no separate SSR driver module needed on the DIN rail. Communication is RS-485 with both CompoWay/F and Modbus protocols on board. That means it talks directly to a PLC or SCADA without a protocol converter — just wire the screw terminals to the bus. The IP66 front-panel rating means it withstands washdown in food, beverage, or chemical processing environments; the unit is dust-tight and water-resistant, so a hose-down during line cleaning won't kill the display or the electronics behind the bezel.
Mounting and wiring — what fits in the cutout
Mounting is panel-mount only — no DIN-rail clip on this one. The required panel cutout is rectangular, 92.00 mm x 45.00 mm, which is the standard 1/4 DIN footprint. Screw terminals for all connections: power, sensor input, relay outputs, voltage output, and the RS-485 bus. Wire it up with 0.2–2.5 mm² stranded or solid; torque to the terminal block specs in the manual. The tri-color LCD backlight gives three display lines at 4 characters each, with character heights of 18.00 mm, 11.00 mm, and 7.80 mm — the top line is readable from across a panel.
