Five relay outputs in a 1/4 DIN package
The E5EC-RX4ABM-008 carries five relay outputs — one more than the standard four on the E5EC-RX2ABM-008. That fifth relay is useful for a secondary alarm, a separate heater contactor, or a valve position signal without adding an external relay module. The controller accepts RTD and 13 thermocouple types (B, E, J, K, L, N, PLII, R, S, T, U, W) plus 0-20 mA and 0-10 VDC analog inputs, covering the full range from -200°C to 2300°C. One unit handles most process sensors without a separate signal conditioner. Control method is On/Off or Proportional (PID) — the PID loop is auto-tuned from the front panel, no software required. The RS-485 port supports Modbus or CompoWay/F for host readout and setpoint changes.
IP66 front panel and spring terminals
The front panel is rated IP66 — dust-tight and protected against hose-directed water. This matters for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or any washdown zone where a standard IP54 controller would fail from moisture ingress through the bezel seal. Termination is spring-clamp, not screw. No torque driver needed, no screw loosening from vibration, and the wire is held by constant spring force. The 92 mm x 45 mm rectangular cutout matches the standard 1/4 DIN panel punch — no adapter plate required. Supply voltage is 100-240 VAC, so it connects directly to line power without a step-down transformer. Operating ambient is -10°C to 55°C — fine for most indoor panel environments but not for direct oven-side mounting.
Heater fault detection built in
Heater Fault Detection monitors the current draw of the controlled heater load via an external CT. If the current drops below a set threshold — indicating a failed heater element or a shorted SSR — the controller flags an alarm. This catches heater failures between production cycles instead of waiting for a temperature deviation. The display is a tri-color LCD backlight with three rows of four characters each. Row heights are 0.710", 0.433", and 0.307" — the top row shows the process value in large digits, the middle row the setpoint, and the bottom row status or alarm text.
