Sensor compatibility and input flexibility
The E5EC-RX4D5M-5800U accepts RTD, thermocouple types B, E, J, K, L, N, PLII, R, S, T, U, W, plus 0–20 mA and 0–10 VDC linear inputs, spanning -200°C to 2300°C. This covers most industrial process sensors without needing signal conditioners — one controller handles both temperature and analog process signals. The input range selection is configured via the front panel or software; no internal jumpers or module swaps are required. For a commissioning engineer, this means one part number covers a plant's entire temperature loop inventory, from cryogenic RTDs to high-temperature Type W thermocouples.
Five relay outputs — control and alarm in one chassis
Five relay outputs provide separate channels for heating, cooling, and up to three alarm events. The screw terminals accept up to 14 AWG, and the relay contacts are rated for 3 A at 250 VAC resistive — enough to drive contactors or solenoid valves directly without interposing relays. The control method switches between On/Off and full PID with auto-tuning. For a panel builder wiring a multi-zone oven, the five outputs eliminate the need for a separate alarm annunciator module — one controller handles the loop and the high/low/rate-of-change alarms.
Panel fit and environmental sealing
The panel cutout is 92.00 mm x 45.00 mm, matching the standard DIN 43700 rectangular opening used across the E5EC family. The IP66 front-panel rating means the controller survives washdown in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical lines — the gasket seals against the panel, not the housing threads. Operating temperature range is -10°C to 55°C, which covers most NEMA 4X enclosures in unconditioned plant areas. The tri-color LCD backlight (green, orange, red) gives operators a quick status read from across the line — green for normal, red for alarm.
Starter Kit and commissioning workflow
The controller ships as a Starter Kit that includes the controller, a programming cable, and configuration software. For a commissioning engineer, this means the controller can be pre-configured on a laptop before it ever reaches the panel — the cable connects to the front-panel USB port, and the software supports parameter file save/restore for fleet deployment. The display shows four characters per row across three rows, with character heights of 18.00 mm, 11.00 mm, and 7.80 mm. The largest row is readable from several meters away, which helps during FAT walkthroughs and operator training.
