The Omron F3SJ-A0275P20 is a type-4 safety light curtain from the F3SJ-A series, built for point-of-operation guarding where a 20mm detection capability means it catches fingers reaching into the hazard zone (finger-protection class per IEC 61496-1/2). The 15mm beam pitch and 18 beams create a 275mm protective height — sized for small assembly stations, pick-and-place cells, or conveyor infeed zones where a compact curtain covers the opening without overshooting the guarded area. Operating range spans 0.2m to 9.0m, so it fits both tight machine apertures and wider access points up to 9 meters between emitter and receiver.
The 20mm detection capability (minimum object the curtain reliably sees) sets the minimum safe distance from the hazard per ISO 13855 — tighter detection lets you mount the curtain closer to the pinch point, saving floor space. The 275mm protective height defines the vertical zone covered; stack multiple curtains if your opening is taller. Blanking and muting functions are built in, so you can program fixed obstructions (a part fixture) or bypass the curtain during a non-hazardous material pass without an external safety controller. Runs on 24VDC, which is standard for safety circuits in modern panels — no separate power supply needed if your safety relay or PLC already provides 24V.
Integration notes
Mount the emitter and receiver on rigid brackets, aligned within the beam pitch tolerance. IP65 means no additional enclosure needed for washdown zones — just gland the cable entry. The 0.2m minimum range means you cannot use it for presence sensing inside a machine frame shorter than 200mm; plan your mounting distance accordingly.
