What this light curtain does
The Omron F3SJ-A0320P30 is a safety light curtain from the F3SJ-A series, designed for hand and arm detection at industrial access points and hazard zones. Its 30mm detection capability means it catches a hand or arm reaching through the protected plane — that's finger-protection class per IEC 61496-1, so it suits guarding around presses, assembly stations, and robotic cells where a person could reach into danger. Thirteen beams at 25mm pitch cover a 320mm protective height, with an operating range from 0.2m out to 9.0m. That range covers most machine guarding layouts — think conveyor in-feeds, palletizer cells, or packaging line access points where you need a wide curtain but not a tall one. Runs on 24VDC supply, rated for -10°C to 55°C ambient. The IP65 rating means the housing and optics withstand hose-directed water and dust ingress — fine for washdown areas in food processing or general industrial environments where you're cleaning the line.
Built-in flexibility: blanking and muting
This curtain includes blanking and muting functions as standard features. Blanking lets you optically mask fixed obstructions (a conveyor frame or part fixture) that sit permanently in the beam path without tripping the safety output. Muting temporarily suspends the curtain during a material pass — think a pallet moving through the guarded opening — then re-arms the protection once the load clears. Both are configurable without an external controller on this series.
