What this light curtain does
The Omron F3SJ-A0420P25-TS is a type-4 safety light curtain from the F3SJ-A series, rated for hand protection with a 25 mm detection capability. That 25 mm figure means it catches fingers and hands reaching into the guarded zone — the standard threshold for finger and hand detection per IEC 61496. The 20 mm beam pitch and 21 beams give it a 420 mm protective height, sized for guarding access openings on assembly stations, packaging machines, or press brakes where the hazard zone is about that tall. Operating range spans 0.2 m to 9.0 m, so it works both in tight reach-in applications and across wider machine perimeters. Runs on 24 VDC, standard for safety circuits in industrial control panels. IP65 rating means the housing and optics hold up against washdown and dust — suitable for food processing lines or outdoor-adjacent positions where hose-down cleaning is routine.
Built-in blanking and muting
This unit includes blanking and muting functions onboard. Blanking lets you optically bypass fixed obstructions (like a machine frame member) inside the sensing field without disabling the entire curtain. Muting allows the curtain to temporarily override during a material pass — a pallet moving through, for example — while keeping the rest of the field active. Both features are configured directly on the unit, no external controller needed.
Integration notes
Mounts with the standard F3SJ-A brackets; alignment aids are built into the housing. The 24 VDC supply must be from a safety-rated power source or a downstream safety relay. Muting sensors (if used) connect to the dedicated muting input pins on the receiver. Blanking zones are set via the teach-in procedure — no software needed.
