What this light curtain does and where it fits
The Omron F3SJ-A0580P25-TS is a Type 4 safety light curtain from the F3SJ-A series, rated for hand detection with a 25 mm detection capability. That 25 mm figure means it catches fingers reaching into the hazard zone — finger-protection class per IEC 61496-1 — so it guards access points where an operator's hands could reach a pinch point or cutting area. The 580 mm protective height and 20 mm beam pitch (29 beams total) define the guarded zone: you size the curtain so the protected height covers the full opening, and the 0.2 m to 9.0 m operating range sets how far the emitter and receiver can be apart. It runs on 24 VDC and carries an IP65 rating, meaning the housing and optics withstand washdown — suitable for food-and-bev lines or any area that gets hosed down.
Blanking and muting — flexible guarding for production lines
The F3SJ-A0580P25-TS includes blanking and muting function as standard features. Blanking lets you optically bypass specific beams so fixed tooling or a workpiece can pass through the field without tripping the safety output — useful on assembly stations where a fixture extends into the guarded area. Muting temporarily suspends the light curtain during a material-transfer cycle, typically triggered by external muting sensors, so a pallet can move through the curtain without stopping the machine. Both features are configurable through the controller, not hard-wired, which simplifies changeovers on a mixed-product line.
What the ratings mean for installation
The 25 mm detection capability and 580 mm protective height define the physical guarding envelope. Mount the emitter and receiver on opposite sides of the hazard opening, aligned so the 29 beams cover the full height. The 0.2 m minimum range means the two units must be at least 200 mm apart — you cannot use this curtain for very short gaps. The IP65 rating means the housings are dust-tight and protected against water jets, so they can be mounted in washdown zones without an additional enclosure. Operating temperature range of -10°C to 55°C covers most indoor industrial environments, but if the line runs near a hot process, verify the ambient stays below 55°C.
