What it is and what it guards
The Omron F3SJ-A1385P20 is a safety light curtain from the F3SJ-A series, built for finger and hand protection with a 20mm detection capability. That 20mm resolution means it catches a hand or individual fingers reaching into a hazard zone — the 15mm beam pitch and 92 beams create a detection plane that meets the finger-protection class under IEC 61496-1, so it's sized for press brakes, assembly stations, and robotic cells where an operator needs to reach into the guarded area but the machine must stop before contact. The protective height is 1385mm, and the operating range spans 0.2m to 9.0m, which covers most reach-in guarding applications on a single transmitter-receiver pair. Supply is 24VDC, standard for safety circuits, and the IP65 rating means the housings and optics handle washdown — suitable for food-and-bev lines or any area where hoses are used.
Built-in logic for production flow
This curtain carries blanking and muting functions onboard. Blanking lets you disable specific beams for a fixed obstruction (a fixture or part that passes through the plane without triggering a stop). Muting temporarily overrides the curtain during a defined cycle — for example, when a pallet enters or exits the guarded zone. Both are configurable without an external controller, which simplifies wiring and keeps the logic inside the safety circuit.
