What this light curtain does
The F3SJ-A1870N30 is a type-4 safety light curtain from Omron's F3SJ-A series, designed for hand/arm detection. Its 30 mm detection capability means it catches a hand or arm reaching into a hazard zone — that's the finger-protection class per IEC 61496-1 for point-of-operation guarding. The 1870 mm protective height and 75 beams give coverage for tall access openings, like a robot cell entry or a palletizer infeed.
The 75 beams at a 25 mm pitch create the 1870 mm protective field. The 0.2 m to 7.0 m operating range covers most machine guarding distances — from tight manual stations to wider automated cells. IP65 rating means the sensor heads and optics resist washdown and dust ingress, so this curtain can live on a food-processing or packaging line where hoses are used. Supply is 24 VDC, standard for safety circuits.
Blanking and muting — built-in flexibility
This curtain supports blanking and muting functions. Blanking lets you disable selected beams to allow a fixed object (like a fixture or conveyor) to pass through the field without tripping the safety output. Muting temporarily suspends the curtain during a non-hazardous cycle, such as a pallet entering a machine zone under controlled conditions. These are configurable via the controller or setup software, reducing the need for external safety relays or bypass modules.
