The Omron F3SJ-A2180P25-TS is a Type 4 safety light curtain from the F3SJ-A series, built for hand protection (25mm detection capability) across a 2180mm protective height. It uses 109 beams at a 20mm pitch to create a detection plane that catches fingers and hands reaching into a hazard zone, with an operating range of 0.2m to 7.0m. The 24VDC supply and IP65 rating (dust-tight, water-resistant) make it suitable for washdown environments in food-and-beverage or packaging lines where the sensor body and optics need to withstand hose-down cleaning.
The 25mm detection capability means this curtain catches a 25mm-diameter object anywhere in the field — that's finger-protection class per IEC 61496-1, not arm or body detection. The 2180mm protective height covers a tall opening; you size the curtain so the protected height exceeds the reachable hazard zone. The 20mm beam pitch gives 109 beams across that height, so there are no blind gaps large enough for a finger to slip through. The 0.2m minimum range is short enough to mount close to the hazard, while the 7.0m maximum covers most single-side guarding layouts without needing a second set of cascaded curtains.
Built-in blanking and muting
This model includes blanking and muting functions. Blanking lets you optically deactivate specific beams to allow a fixed object (like a conveyor frame or fixture) to pass through the field without tripping the safety output. Muting temporarily suspends the light curtain during a non-hazardous material pass (e.g., a pallet entering a machine), using external muting sensors. Both are integral to the F3SJ-A series controller, so you don't need an external safety module for these functions — just wire the muting sensors and configure the blanking pattern.
