What this light curtain does
Its 1585mm protective height and 78 beams at a 20mm pitch create a detection plane that catches a hand or finger reaching into the hazard zone — finger-protection class per IEC 61496-1. The 0.2m to 7.0m operating range gives flexibility for guarding openings on machines like presses, assembly stations, and packaging lines. Runs on a 24VDC supply and carries an IP65 rating — dust-tight and protected against water jets, so it holds up on washdown lines in food processing or in dusty environments like woodworking cells. Built-in blanking and muting functions let the curtain ignore fixed obstructions (like a machine frame) or temporarily disable itself during material pass-through, which avoids nuisance trips that stop production.
The 25mm detection capability is the key fit parameter: it resolves a hand or finger (typically 14mm diameter minimum for finger protection, but 25mm is the standard hand-detection spec per IEC 61496-2). If your risk assessment calls for finger detection (14mm), this curtain won't meet it — you need the F3SJ-B series with a finer beam pitch. For hand guarding, though, the 25mm spec paired with the 20mm beam pitch gives reliable coverage. The 1585mm protective height determines what opening it covers. Measure your hazard zone vertically — this curtain guards an area just over 1.5m tall. The 78 beams at 20mm pitch mean no gaps larger than the detection capability between beams.
Integration notes
Mounting the F3SJ-B1585P25 requires aligning the emitter and receiver within the 0.2m to 7.0m range. The IP65 enclosure means it can be mounted directly on the machine frame without an additional enclosure in most indoor environments. Wiring is straightforward — 24VDC supply and two PNP safety outputs (OSSDs) that feed into a safety controller or relay. The blanking and muting functions are configured via the controller or a separate programming unit. Blanking lets you mask fixed objects within the field; muting allows the curtain to be overridden during material feed cycles. Both are standard on this series and don't require special firmware.
