What the trip range means for your motor circuit
The Omron K8AK-AS3 100-240VAC is a current sensing relay that monitors AC or DC current from 10 A up to 200 A. That 10-to-200 A window covers most single-motor branch circuits, heater banks, and conveyor drives — you set the trip point inside that range to match the full-load amps of the protected load. The SPDT relay output switches 5 A at 250 VAC, so it can directly interrupt a contactor coil or feed a PLC input without an interposing relay.
Delay time and wiring — what the 0.1-30 second window buys you
The adjustable delay time spans 0.1 Sec to 30 Sec. Set the delay past the motor start transient to avoid tripping on inrush. The relay is self-powered from the 100-240 VAC supply — no separate control voltage needed. Wire the current transformer (or direct pass-through for the K8AK-AS3 variant) in series with the load conductor; the trip and delay pots are on the front face for on-site adjustment.
Active production — no obsolescence concern
It ships in a box, DIN-rail mount, rated for -20°C to 60°C ambient. The package is the standard Omron industrial relay box with the unit and the instruction sheet.
