What the NX1029020 is
The Omron NX1029020 is an NX1-series programmable logic controller built around EtherCAT motion and EtherNet/IP on the same backplane. The controller carries 5 MB of program capacity backed by 33.5 MB of data memory. The base MPN pairing is NX102-9020; the order string NX1029020 is the same product, just rendered without the dash. They share the same published spec line, so a BOM line specifying NX102-9020 maps to this controller without re-engineering.
Communications and cycle time
Built-in comms cover EtherCAT plus two EtherNet/IP ports at 100 Mbps. For a machine builder that means one controller handles the high-speed motion bus and the plant-level tag traffic without an extra switching module. Minimum cycle time is 1 ms, and the motion envelope is 4 total axes / 4 point-to-point / 0 coordinated. Enough axes for a multi-station indexing table or a small packaging line, not enough for synchronized coordinated motion beyond four axes.
I/O scaling and expansion
Local I/O capacity is 1024 points, and with an NX Coupler the rack scales to 8960 points across up to 400 NX units. The NX Local Bus is the expansion channel, so a panel that starts at 1024 points today can grow into a full cell.
Panel-side fit
Mounting is DIN rail or panel mount with push-in terminals, which keeps termination fast on the bench and field-serviceable without tools beyond a flat-blade driver. Operating voltage minimum is 20 V, so a 24 V nominal rail with normal supply sag stays inside the controller's tolerance band. Battery backup and a real-time clock are present, and program backup runs through an SD flash port - retained variables and time-stamped alarms survive a power dip, which matters on a line where recipe integrity is a quality requirement. Programming is Ladder Diagram (LD) and Structured Text (ST) over Ethernet per the listed language set.
Sourcing reality
Within the NX1 family, the NX1021120, NX1021020, and NX1021000 peers carry the same 33.5 MB data memory, 5 MB program capacity, 100 Mbps bus, and push-in termination - they differ on functional variant, not on the spec envelope that decides panel fit.
