Overview
The NX502-1700 is an Omron NX-series Machine Automation Controller with built-in EtherCAT and two EtherNet/IP ports, order code NX502-1700. It supports 1024 points of local I/O (expandable to 8960 with an NX Coupler), 80 MB program memory, 256 MB non-retained memory, and a minimum cycle time of 0.25 ms.
Applications
As a Machine Automation Controller, the NX502-1700 serves as the central controller for high-speed packaging lines, assembly cells, material handling systems, and other automated machinery requiring coordinated motion and I/O control.
The dual-protocol communication — EtherCAT for real-time motion and I/O, plus two EtherNet/IP ports for plant networking — allows the controller to act as both a motion master and a data concentrator without additional gateways. With 80 MB of program memory and 256 MB of non-retained memory, the NX502-1700 can host large, multi-axis applications; the 0.25 ms cycle time supports fast logic and motion loops. The controller handles up to 256 axes of point-to-point motion and 256 coordinated axes, suiting it for complex multi-axis machines such as pick-and-place gantries or rotary indexing stations.
