The AFPX-E16X is a 16-point digital input module for the Panasonic FP-X PLC series. The 16 inputs are all sinking/sourcing digital, rated for the FP-X backplane. Operating range is 0°C to 55°C, so it handles the inside of a typical control cabinet without complaint, but keep it out of direct steam or washdown zones.
What the 16 Digital Inputs Mean for Your Panel
Sixteen points is a dense input block — it fills a full 16-bit word in the FP-X I/O map, which keeps your addressing clean. If you're replacing an 8-input module, you'll gain eight spare points on the same slot, but watch your backplane power budget: the FP-X power supply has a maximum current draw per slot, and a full 16-input module pulls more than an 8-input.
Fit Against a Peer Module
The AFPX-E16R is the closest sibling — it's an 8-input / 8-relay-output combo module in the same FP-X series, same DIN footprint, same screw terminals. If your panel was wired for the AFPX-E16R, the AFPX-E16X won't drop in without rewiring: the E16X has 16 inputs and zero outputs, so the output wiring from the E16R's relay bank has nowhere to land. The physical slot fits, but the I/O map and field wiring are different. The E16X is a pure input expander; the E16R is a mixed I/O block.
