40 A RCCB with Type A-SI earth-leakage protection
The Schneider Electric A9Z31240 is a 2-pole residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) from the Acti9 iID family, rated at 40 A with 30 mA earth-leakage sensitivity. It is a Type A-SI (Super Immunised) device, meaning it handles pulsed DC fault currents and is immune to nuisance tripping from high-frequency harmonics or surge currents — a common requirement on modern variable-speed drive and UPS-fed circuits where standard Type A or AC RCCBs can false-trip. Rated operational voltage is 220...240 V AC at 50/60 Hz, with a rated insulation voltage of 500 V AC.
Neutral is on the left. IP20 rated (finger-safe) per IEC 60529; IP40 in a modular enclosure.
The impulse withstand rating is 3000 A (8/20 µs waveform) per those standards. Tripping is voltage-independent — the device does not require a neutral-to-earth voltage to operate, so it remains functional even if the supply voltage is lost.
Environmental and durability
Electrical durability is 15,000 cycles under AC-1 resistive load; mechanical durability is 20,000 cycles. The contact position indicator and padlocking provision support lockout/tagout procedures during panel maintenance.
