The TM-D trip unit gives you thermal protection for overloads (L) and magnetic protection for short circuits (I). No earth-leakage module onboard, so if you need ground-fault protection, you'll add a Vigi add-on or external relay. At 240 V AC it's 100 kA Icu; at 480 V AC it's 65 kA (per UL 60947-4-1); at 600 V AC it drops to 10 kA. If your service entrance is 480 V, this 65 kA rating still gives you headroom for most secondary distribution. At 690 V (10 kA) it's mainly for motor circuits with limited fault current. The breaker is Category A (no intentional short-time delay), so it's a standard instantaneous trip device.
For a line-down spare or a BOM freeze, this is a straight drop-in: 3-pole, 16 A, thermal-magnetic, front-connected, backplate-mounted. No firmware, no configuration, no software download — just torque the lugs and close the cover. The mechanical durability of 50,000 cycles and electrical durability of 30,000 cycles at rated current (440 V In) mean it'll outlast most panel refreshes.
It mounts flat on a backplate — no DIN rail, so you'll need panel-mounting screws or a mounting bracket. The front-connect terminals (both line and load) make wiring straightforward in a standard enclosure. IP40 front face means it's splash-resistant from the front but not sealed for washdown; keep it inside a panel. Power dissipation is 2.92 W per pole.
