160 A MCCB for distribution boards
The Schneider Electric C12F6TM160L is a ComPacT NSXm 160 A four-pole moulded-case circuit breaker with a thermal-magnetic TM-D trip unit. Its 36 kA breaking capacity at 415 V AC (performance level F) handles high-fault-current distribution panels and sub-distribution boards. Rated 160 A at 40 °C, it covers main feeder or large branch circuits in commercial and light industrial installations.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 36 kA at 415 V AC (Icu) is the maximum short-circuit current the breaker can safely interrupt without damage — critical for installations near large transformers or with high available fault current. The 160 A continuous rating at 40 °C is the load it carries without tripping; derate for higher ambient temperatures per the thermal curve. The TM-D trip unit provides fixed thermal (overload) and magnetic (short-circuit) protection curves, not adjustable — select for a known load profile where you don't need field tuning. Category A utilisation means it is not intended for motor starting duty requiring frequent switching under load.
Panel integration and wiring
Mounts on a backplate in horizontal or vertical orientation. Front connection top and bottom simplifies busbar and cable routing in distribution boards. Everlink lug terminals accept 2.5 to 95 mm² rigid/stranded copper (70 mm² flexible) — sized for the 160 A feed. At 108 mm wide, 137 mm high, 80 mm deep, it occupies 12 module pitches of 9 mm on a DIN-rail-compatible backplate. IP40 enclosure protection keeps dust out of the panel interior; IK07 impact resistance handles incidental tool contact during installation.
Standards and compliance
Designed and tested to EN/IEC 60947-2, the governing standard for low-voltage moulded-case circuit breakers. Suitability for isolation (IEC 60947-2) means it can serve as a visible-break disconnect when open. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60664-1 suits it for industrial environments with conductive contamination. Overvoltage category III covers fixed-installation distribution boards. No earth-leakage protection integrated — add a separate RCD or RCBO if ground-fault protection is required.
