160 A thermal-magnetic breaker for distribution panels
The Schneider Electric C12N4TM160B is a ComPacT NSXm 4-pole circuit breaker rated 160 A at 40 °C with a TM-D thermal-magnetic trip unit. Its 50 kA breaking capacity at 415 V AC (performance level N) means it clears high-fault currents typical in commercial and light industrial distribution boards without cascading upstream — the IEC 60947-2 Category A utilization confirms it is not intended for selective coordination with downstream breakers, so plan for full discrimination at the panel design stage.
The 160 A rating at 40 °C is the continuous current the breaker carries without tripping in a 40 °C ambient. Above that temperature, derate per the thermal curve — the TM-D unit responds to both overload (thermal bimetal) and short-circuit (magnetic) events, so the trip threshold is fixed by the trip unit rating, not adjustable.
The 4-pole unit occupies 12 module pitches at 9 mm each (108 mm wide, 137 mm high, 80 mm deep). Connection is front-side via compression lugs or busbars; neutral is on the left. The grey RAL 7016 finish is standard for the ComPacT range.
