MCCB selection memo — C16H4TM160C
The Schneider Electric C16H4TM160C is a ComPacT NSX160H moulded-case circuit breaker, 4-pole, with a TM-D thermal-magnetic trip unit rated at 160 A at 50 °C. The TM-D trip provides fixed thermal (overload) and fixed magnetic (short-circuit) protection; no interchangeable rating plugs or electronic adjustments.
At 220/240 V AC the breaker can interrupt 100 kA Icu; at 690 V AC it drops to 10 kA Icu. For a 400 V panel feeding motor control centres or distribution boards, the H rating gives headroom above typical 25–50 kA prospective fault levels without stepping to an L or S frame.
The thermal element tracks RMS heating; the magnetic element operates instantaneously on high fault currents. Neutral protection is set at 1 x Ir (4D), meaning the neutral pole is protected at the same level as the phase poles — standard for 4-pole distribution where the neutral is not oversized. There is no earth-leakage protection built in; add a Vigi module externally if required. Electrical durability is 20,000 cycles at 440 V at rated current, and 40,000 cycles at half load — adequate for a main distribution breaker that operates infrequently.
Connection pitch is 35 mm, and both line and load connections are front-accessible — no rear bus-bar access required. The 4-pole unit with neutral on the left fits standard panel layouts. IP40 enclosure protection and IK07 impact resistance suit it for enclosed distribution boards; not rated for washdown environments.
