The magnetic latching mechanism holds the main contacts closed without continuous coil power — a 48 V AC/DC pulse latches it, a separate pulse unlatches it — which means the contactor stays in its last commanded state through a power loss, useful for fail-safe or energy-conscious applications. The 4 NO (normally open) power poles handle the main load; the front face is IP20 protected against finger contact, so it's safe in an open panel.
This contactor is sized for substantial three-phase induction motors. At 380–400 V AC, it switches a 200 kW motor; at 440 V, 250 kW; at 690 V, 280 kW. For UL/CSA installations, the horsepower ratings are 250 hp at 460–480 V and 300 hp at 575–600 V. These figures are for AC-3 duty (starting and stopping a running motor) at 50/60 Hz. The latching coil draws 1600 VA during the latching pulse (AC 50–400 Hz or DC) and only 16 VA during the unlatching pulse. That's a brief, high-inrush pull-in, then zero holding power once latched — the contactor stays closed on the magnetic latch alone. The control voltage limits are 0.85 to 1.1 times the nominal 48 V UC for both latching and unlatching, so your control supply needs to stay within that band. Operating time is 40–75 ms to latch, 50–100 ms to unlatch, which is typical for a contactor this size.
Mounting, connections, and environmental limits
Mounts on a notched AM1-EC rail — a standard DIN-style rail for large contactors. The main power connections accept lugs or ring terminals up to 150 mm² (0.2 in²) or bars 30 x 5 mm, with a tightening torque of 35 N.m (309.8 lbf.in). The contactor measures 261 mm wide, 206 mm high, and 219 mm deep — a substantial footprint, so check your panel depth before committing. Maximum operating rate is 120 cycles per hour at 40 °C, and the mechanical durability is rated at 1 million cycles. Power dissipation per pole is 45 W in AC-3 and 70 W in AC-1, which adds up to 180–280 W total heat to evacuate from the enclosure.
