Magnetic Latching Contactor for High-Current Motor Control
The CR1F4004EZ7 is a 4-pole magnetic latching contactor in the TeSys F range, designed for high-current motor switching and resistive load control. It carries a rated operational current of 400 A at 40 °C in AC-3 duty, and can handle motor loads up to 185 kW at 1000 V AC or 200 kW at 400 V AC. The latching mechanism holds the main contacts closed without continuous coil power, drawing 500 W only during the latching pulse and 70 W during unlatching—critical for applications where sustained coil dissipation is unacceptable or where the contactor must stay engaged during a control-power dropout.
Ratings That Define the Fit
The conventional free-air thermal current (Ith) is 500 A at 40 °C, meaning the main power path can carry that current continuously in open air without exceeding temperature rise limits. The rated insulation voltage (Ui) is 1000 V per IEC 60947-4 and BS 775, with an impulse withstand (Uimp) of 8 kV—this contactor is built for 1000 VAC line applications where surge coordination matters. Short-time withstand (Icw) is 3600 A for 1 second at 40 °C, giving the protection engineer headroom for selective coordination with upstream fuses or breakers.
Control Circuit and Coil Characteristics
The control circuit is 48 VDC low-consumption, with latching and unlatching voltage limits of 0.85 to 1.1 times Uc—so the coil must see at least 40.8 VDC to reliably latch, and no more than 52.8 VDC. Operating times are 40 to 75 ms for latching, 50 to 100 ms for unlatching. The latching coil draws 500 W DC during the pulse, then zero holding power; the unlatching coil draws 70 W DC. This low-consumption design suits battery-backed or UPS-fed control systems where sustained coil draw would drain reserves.
Physical Integration and Environment
Dimensions are 8.6 in (219 mm) deep, 10.3 in (261 mm) wide, and 8.1 in (206 mm) tall. The contactor is a panel-mount device with lug-ring terminal connections accepting two 150 mm² cables or two 30 x 5 mm bars per pole. Tightening torque is 35 N·m (309.8 lbf·in). Operating temperature range is -15 to 70 °C, storage -60 to 80 °C. The TH protective treatment indicates suitability for tropical/humid environments. Maximum operating rate is 120 cycles per hour at 40 °C.
