Magnetic Latching Contactor for Heavy Motor Control
The Schneider Electric CR1F5004N7 is a TeSys F magnetic latching contactor with 4 normally open power poles, rated for 500 A operational current (AC-3 duty) and capable of switching motor loads up to 335 kW at 690 V AC 50/60 Hz. The magnetic latching mechanism holds the contacts closed without continuous coil power — the 415 V AC coil draws 1800 VA during the latching pulse, then only 13 VA for unlatching. This makes it suited for applications where sustained coil power is undesirable or where a power loss must not drop out the load.
The 500 A rating at <= 440 V AC under AC-4 category means this contactor handles the severe inrush and plugging duty of reversing or jogging motor loads — not just steady running. Mechanical durability is 1 Mcycles, reflecting the robust TeSys F frame.
Where It Belongs in the Panel
Mounts on a notched AM1-EC rail — the standard heavy-duty DIN rail for contactors this size. Front face carries IP20 protection per IEC 60529, so it's touch-safe in an enclosed panel but not for open washdown areas. Connections accept lugs, ring terminals up to 240 mm², or bars 40 x 5 mm, torqued to 309.8 lbf.in (35 N.m). The 9.1 in (232 mm) depth and 11.3 in (288 mm) width require generous cabinet space; plan for side clearance for arc-chamber venting and cable bending radius.
