What This Fuse Switch Disconnector Body Delivers
The GS1LBR3 is the body of a TeSys GS fuse switch disconnector, 3-pole, designed for BS-type fuses. It is the core switching and isolating element for a fuse-protected motor or distribution circuit, accepting the fuse carrier and operating mechanism. Rated 160 A conventional free-air thermal current (Ith) at 40 °C, and 160 A in AC-23A/AC-23B duty at 400 V, this body handles motor switching and isolation up to 80 kW at 400 V or 110 kW at 500/690 V. The AC-23 category means it is suited for occasional switching of motors and other highly inductive loads — not continuous resistive heating duty.
Breaking, Making, and Withstand Capacity
Breaking capacity is 1280 A at 400 V AC-23B; making capacity is 1600 A at the same voltage and duty. These figures define the maximum fault current the disconnector can safely close onto or interrupt in motor-switching service — a key parameter for coordination with upstream protection. Short-circuit withstand rating is 80 kA, meaning the body can survive a fault of that magnitude when backed by the correct BS fuse links. The associated rated short-circuit making capacity (Icm) is 1.6 kA at 400 V with BS fuse protection.
Physical Fit and Panel Integration
Dimensions are 7.5 in (190 mm) wide, 4.8 in (123 mm) deep, and 6.4 in (162 mm) high. Mounting is via rail or plate — the body accepts the standard TeSys GS mounting footprint, so it fits the same panel cut-out or DIN-rail adapter as other GS1L units. Power circuit connections accept bars or screw terminals for 50–95 mm² flexible cable. The right-side operating handle position is factory-set; the body ships with IP20 protection with the terminal cover fitted, meeting IEC 60529 for finger-safe installation inside an enclosure.
Compliance and Environmental Tolerance
Certified to IEC 60269-1, IEC 60269-2, and IEC 60947-3 — the fuse-switch-disconnector standards for low-voltage switching and isolation. The body and fuse cover withstand a 960 °C and 850 °C glow-wire test (IEC 60695-2-1), confirming fire resistance for the enclosure. Rated insulation voltage (Ui) is 750 V AC at 50/60 Hz, with an impulse withstand voltage (Uimp) of 8 kV. Operating ambient temperature range is –20 °C to +70 °C, with protective treatment TH for tropical environments.
Lifecycle and Sourcing Reality
Electrical durability is rated 1000 cycles in AC-23A/AC-23B duty and 200 cycles in DC-23A/DC-23B. Mechanical durability is 10,000 cycles — the body is designed for occasional switching, not high-cycle automation. For a panel builder or MRO planner, this means the disconnector is a fit-and-forget isolation point, not a daily-operate switch.
