What the 1400 A AC-1 Rating Means for Your BOM Line
For a 1400 A resistive bank (heater strips, large lighting banks, power-factor correction capacitor switching), this contactor carries the full load continuously at 40 °C ambient. The AC-1 rating governs the thermal current; the conventional free-air thermal current (Ith) matches at 1400 A. If your application is motor duty (AC-3), this is the wrong part — the TeSys F family has AC-3-rated variants for that. The control coil is 415 V AC, 40-400 Hz, drawing 2200 VA inrush and 36 VA hold-in. Operating limits: 0.85 to 1.1 Uc for pickup, drop-out between 0.3 and 0.5 Uc. Opening time runs 100-170 ms, closing 40-75 ms. That 100 ms minimum open time matters if you are sequencing contactors in a transfer scheme — the dropout delay can stack.
Mounting and Integration — Plate-Mount, Not DIN Rail
Mounting is plate-only — no DIN-rail clip. The contactor measures 438 mm wide by 332 mm high by 238.6 mm deep. Power connections are bolted busbar (bar connection, 2 cables, busbar cross-section 100 x 5 mm). Control circuit uses screw-clamp terminals accepting 1 to 4 mm² flexible or solid. Tightening torque: 58 N·m on the power circuit, 1.2 N·m on the control circuit. Plan for a 100 x 5 mm busbar drop and a 58 N·m torque wrench on the power lugs — that is a heavy-duty connection, not a finger-tight terminal.
Standards and Compliance — Full IEC/UL/CSA Suite
The LC1F1400N7 carries approvals under IEC 60947-4-1, EN 60947-4-1, UL 60947-4-1, CSA C22.2 No 60947-4-1, plus JIS C8201-4-1. Rated insulation voltage (Ui) is 1000 V per IEC/UL, 1500 V per VDE 0110 group C. Impulse withstand (Uimp) is 8 kV, overvoltage category III. Short-time withstand (Icw): 8000 A for 10 s, 6000 A for 30 s, 4500 A for 1 min. Breaking capacity: 2100 A per IEC 60947-4-1. Protective treatment is TH (tropicalised). Operating altitude: 3000 m without derating.
Heat Dissipation and Thermal Management
Total heat dissipation is 36 W at rated current. Per pole, AC-1 dissipation is 150 W. Average impedance is 0.1 mOhm at Ith 1700 A, 50 Hz. The associated fuse rating is 1600 A gG at ≤ 440 V. Maximum operating rate is 600 cycles per hour at 55 °C. Ambient operating range is -5 to 40 °C; storage range -60 to 80 °C. In a closed panel, that 36 W per contactor plus 150 W per pole means the thermal load adds up fast — factor it into your cabinet cooling calculation.
