Three-phase supply and speed trade-offs
The SH31401P01A1000: This SH3 servo motor is wound for three-phase operation — the nameplate speed depends on the supply voltage. At 400 V three-phase the nominal speed is 3000 rpm; at 480 V three-phase it reaches 3600 rpm. Single-phase 115 V or 230 V inputs drop the nominal speed to 750 rpm and 1500 rpm respectively, so the drive must match the available line voltage to hit the target speed. Nominal torque also shifts with the supply. At 400 V three-phase the motor delivers 9.2 N.m; at 480 V three-phase it drops to 8.4 N.m. The torque constant is 1.43 N.m/A at 120 °C copper temperature, which sets the current loop gain in the servo drive.
Encoder feedback and absolute positioning
The absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder gives position feedback at power-up without a homing cycle — the drive reads the absolute position from the encoder's single-turn count. This matters for applications where the machine must resume from the last known position after a power cycle, like a rotary axis or a pick-and-place gantry. The back EMF constant is 100 V/krpm at 20 °C. During commissioning, the drive's velocity loop tuning must account for this to avoid overshoot on deceleration. The stator inductance is 23.72 mH and resistance is 1.41 Ohm, which defines the electrical time constant and the current regulator bandwidth.
Torque envelope and thermal limits
Cooling is natural convection, so no external fan or forced air is required. The continuous power rating is 2.9 kW, with nominal output power reaching 2.89 kW at 400 V three-phase and 3.17 kW at 480 V three-phase. The maximum mechanical speed is 4000 rpm, which is above the electrical speed at 480 V — the bearing and rotor balance limit, not the winding.
Mounting, shaft, and ingress protection
The motor flange size is 140 mm with a centring collar diameter of 130 mm and a depth of 3.5 mm — standard IEC mounting. The shaft is smooth, 24 mm diameter by 50 mm long, so a shaft coupling with a clamping hub is required — no keyway. Overall length is 217.5 mm. Ingress protection is IP54 at the shaft bushing without a shaft seal ring, or IP65 at the motor body and shaft bushing with the seal ring fitted. For washdown environments, specify the shaft seal — without it, moisture can enter along the shaft. Maximum radial force is 1930 N at 1000 rpm, derating to 1340 N at 3000 rpm; maximum axial force is 300 N.
