Three-phase servo with integrated holding brake
The SH31401P01F1000 is a three-phase servo motor from Schneider Electric's SH3 series, built with an integrated holding brake for vertical-axis or load-holding applications. The brake delivers 23 N·m holding torque — sufficient to hold a suspended load without power to the motor, meeting safety requirements for Z-axis stops. Rated continuous power is 2900 W, with a maximum mechanical speed of 4000 rpm. The motor is naturally convection cooled — no external fan or forced-air ducting required, simplifying panel layout and reducing maintenance points.
Speed-torque envelope and voltage dependency
Nominal speed varies with supply: 750 rpm at 115 V single-phase, 1500 rpm at 230 V single-phase, 3000 rpm at 400 V three-phase, and 3600 rpm at 480 V three-phase. This voltage-dependent speed profile means the motor's rated output torque also shifts — nominal torque at 400 V three-phase is 9.2 N·m, dropping to 8.4 N·m at 480 V three-phase. Sizing must account for the actual supply voltage at the installation. Peak stall torque is 27 N·m across the 115–480 V three-phase range, giving a 2.4× torque margin over the nominal 400 V rating for acceleration and overload events. Continuous stall torque is 11.1 N·m at the same voltage range, with a continuous stall current of 7.8 A. Maximum RMS current is 20.8 A — this sets the drive's continuous current rating requirement. The torque constant is 1.43 N·m/A at 120 °C copper temperature, so the drive must supply at least 7.8 A to reach continuous stall torque and up to 20.8 A for peak torque.
Encoder, mounting, and environmental sealing
The motor carries an absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder — position is retained at power-off, so homing sequences are not required after a power cycle. The encoder provides sine/cosine analog tracks plus a digital commutation channel, compatible with Schneider's Lexium drive family and third-party Hiperface-capable drives. Mounting uses an international standard flange with a 140 mm flange size and 130 mm centring collar diameter. The overall length is 255.5 mm with a smooth 24 mm shaft extending 50 mm. Shaft bushing without shaft seal ring gives IP54; with the shaft seal ring fitted, the motor achieves IP65 — suitable for washdown or dusty environments per IEC 60034-5.
Bearing load limits and thermal constraints
Maximum radial force Fr is speed-dependent: 1930 N at 1000 rpm, 1530 N at 2000 rpm, 1340 N at 3000 rpm. Maximum axial force Fa is 300 N. These limits govern belt-drive or direct-coupling selections — exceeding them reduces bearing life below the motor's design target. Stator resistance is 1.41 Ω and inductance is 23.72 mH — these values affect the drive's current-loop tuning and the motor's thermal time constant. Copper temperature hot rating is 130 °C; the back EMF constant is 100 V/krpm at 20 °C, which sets the voltage-speed operating line for the drive's DC bus.
