Motor with holding brake for vertical-axis and high-hold applications
The SH31401P01F1100 is a 2.9 kW continuous-power servo motor from the Schneider Electric SH3 series, built with an integrated holding brake that delivers 23 Nm of holding torque. The brake is engaged at rest and releases when the drive enables the motor, so the load never drifts on a power loss. The motor is wound for three-phase supply and delivers its rated torque across a wide speed range: 750 rpm at 115 V single phase, 1500 rpm at 230 V single phase, 3000 rpm at 400 V three phase, and 3600 rpm at 480 V three phase. The maximum mechanical speed is 4000 rpm, so the motor can overspeed briefly for rapid moves if the drive limits the bus voltage.
Absolute encoder and IP65 sealing for washdown environments
The motor carries an absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder. Single-turn means it knows its position within one revolution after power-up — no homing sequence needed on a rotary table or a single-revolution axis. The Hiperface protocol is common on Schneider and third-party drives, so the motor pairs with a Lexium 32 or similar drive without a special adapter. The IP65 rating covers both the motor body and the shaft bushing per IEC 60034-5. That means the motor withstands hose-down cleaning in food processing, washdown stations, or outdoor conveyor sections. The straight connector exits the motor body — plan the cable routing so the connector points away from direct spray.
Torque, inertia, and thermal limits for sizing
The motor is naturally convection cooled — no fan, so the thermal time constant is longer and the duty cycle matters more than on a fan-cooled motor. The copper hot-spot temperature is rated at 130 °C, and the torque constant is 1.43 Nm/A at 120 °C. If the application runs continuous torque near the stall rating, derate for ambient above 40 °C or add forced air.
Shaft, flange, and mounting dimensions
The motor has a smooth shaft (no keyway) with a 24 mm diameter and a 50 mm shaft extension. The flange is the international standard 140 mm size with a 130 mm centring collar diameter and a 3.5 mm centring collar depth. Four mounting holes at 11 mm diameter on the flange face — the bolt pattern matches standard 140 mm flange couplings and gearboxes. Overall length is 255.5 mm from the mounting face to the rear of the motor body. The radial force limits are 1930 N at 1000 rpm, 1530 N at 2000 rpm, and 1340 N at 3000 rpm — belt-drive applications need to check these against the belt tension and pulley overhang. Maximum axial force is 300 N.
