Motor with brake for vertical-axis and hold-to-position applications
The SH31401P11F1100 is a three-phase SH3 servo motor from Schneider Electric with an integrated holding brake rated at 23 Nm holding torque — enough to hold a vertical load or maintain position on a stopped axis without power to the motor windings. The absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder reports position at power-up without a homing sequence, which saves cycle time on machines that power-cycle between production runs. IP65 protection on both the motor body and shaft bushing means this motor can be mounted directly on a machine frame in washdown or dusty environments without a separate enclosure — the seal is at the shaft exit, not just the housing.
Speed-torque envelope depends on supply voltage
At 400 V three-phase input, the motor delivers 3000 rpm nominal speed with 9.2 Nm nominal torque and 2890 W output power. On 480 V three-phase, speed reaches 3600 rpm with 8.4 Nm torque at 3170 W. On single-phase supplies, performance drops significantly: 115 V single-phase yields 750 rpm / 10.95 Nm / 860 W, while 230 V single-phase gives 1500 rpm / 10.6 Nm / 1670 W. The motor is usable on single-phase but the speed range is halved. Continuous stall torque is 11.1 Nm across the 115–480 V three-phase range, with a continuous stall current of 7.8 A. Peak stall torque reaches 27 Nm, limited by the 20.8 A maximum RMS current.
Electrical parameters for drive tuning and sizing
Stator resistance is 1.41 Ω and stator inductance is 23.72 mH — these values feed the auto-tuning routine in the servo drive for current-loop gains and field-weakening thresholds. The torque constant is 1.43 Nm/A at 120 °C copper temperature, and the back EMF constant is 100 V/krpm at 20 °C — both needed for the drive's velocity-loop feedforward calculations.
Mechanical mounting and shaft details
The motor uses an international standard flange with 140 mm flange size, 130 mm centring collar diameter, and 3.5 mm centring collar depth — matches standard IEC frame dimensions for direct bolt-up to gearboxes or machine frames. The shaft is 24 mm diameter with a parallel key, 50 mm shaft length, and 8 mm key width. Maximum radial force is 1930 N at 1000 rpm, derating to 1340 N at 3000 rpm; maximum axial force is 300 N. Cooling is by natural convection — no external fan or forced air required, but the mounting surface must allow free airflow around the finned housing for rated continuous torque.
