Integrator notes on the TM5CAI8O8CVL
The TM5CAI8O8CVL is a Modicon TM5 compact I/O expansion block carrying 16 mixed analogue channels — 8 inputs and 8 outputs — each configurable for 4-20 mA or ±10 V ranges. It sits on a DIN rail and draws 8 mA from the 5 V bus and 217 mA from the 24 V I/O supply. Input resolution is 12 bits for current and 11 bits plus sign for voltage; sampling duration is 20 ms for the whole module or 5 ms per channel. Input filtering is fixed at ≤50 ms — no field adjustment — so factor that into any fast-transient response timing. Outputs respond within ≤1 ms of a status change and include short-circuit protection. Leakage current when switched off is ≤5 µA.
Panel build and wiring
Mounting on DIN rail per TM5 guidelines. Bus isolation is 500 Vrms between channel and bus; there is no isolation between channels, so common-mode voltage on any input pair must stay within the rated limits. Surge withstand is 0.5 kV differential mode and 1 kV common mode on the 24 V I/O supply. IP20 rated — suitable for clean, dry control cabinets only. Operating temperature range is not separately listed but storage ambient is -40 to 70 °C; derating above 40 °C should follow the standard TM5 thermal curve.
Carries CE marking and is listed to UL 508, CSA C22.2 No 213, CSA C22.2 No 142, and IEC 61131-2. EMC compliance includes EN/IEC 61000-4-6, CISPR 11 zone B class A, and fast transient immunity at 1 kV on I/O and shield, 2 kV on mains. The enclosure is white plastic — one of the visual cues that distinguishes this analogue block from the grey digital TM5 slices on the same DIN rail.
