What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1463-5EF32-0KH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection. It carries 630 A continuously at ambient temperatures from 40 °C up to 50 °C without derating, then steps down to 583 A at 70 °C — a solid thermal curve for a main feeder breaker in a warm enclosure. Breaking capacity is 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, and still 75.6 kA at 500 V — high enough for most industrial service-entrance or large distribution panels where fault current runs hot. At 690 V it holds 11.9 kA, so it can also cover a 690 V motor control center downstream of a step-up transformer.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 630 A rating at 40-50 °C is the number to match against your main breaker or large feeder load. If your panel ambient runs above 50 °C, use the derated values: 618 A at 55 °C, 607 A at 60 °C, 595 A at 65 °C, 583 A at 70 °C. Insulation voltage is rated 800 V, which covers 690 V systems with margin. The 187 kA interrupting rating at 240 V means this breaker can sit at a service entrance where available fault current is high — no need for current-limiting fuses upstream in most US 240/120 V distribution panels. At 415/440 V it still clears 121 kA, enough for most European industrial switchgear.
Panel integration and wiring
Dimensions are 248 mm tall, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for a 630 A frame. The 110 mm depth means it fits a 200 mm deep enclosure with room for rear wiring or busbar connections. The shunt trip (STL) lets you remote-trip from an E-stop or fire-alarm relay; the auxiliary switches (2 form-C) and trip alarm switch (1 form-C) give status feedback to a PLC or SCADA.
