630 A MCCB with 187 kA interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1463-5EF42-0AB0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for continuous current of 630 A at 40 °C, with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Its interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V AC — that is the figure that governs fault clearing at typical distribution voltages; at 415 V it still holds 121 kA, and at 690 V it derates to 11.9 kA. For a line-side main breaker or a high-fault-capacity feeder, that 187 kA at 240 V means it can sit downstream of a transformer without needing a current-limiting upstream device in most commercial and industrial panels.
Thermal derating and auxiliary configuration
The 630 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 50 °C — no derating needed in a warm enclosure. Above that it drops linearly: 618 A at 55 °C, 607 A at 60 °C, 595 A at 65 °C, and 583 A at 70 °C. The breaker ships with two auxiliary switches (HP type) pre-installed, which saves a panel-builder the step of adding a separate aux block. The TM240 release is a fixed thermal-magnetic design; no electronic trip unit, no communication module, no undervoltage release. That keeps the bill of materials lean for a straightforward line-protection role.
Panel fit and environmental limits
The breaker measures 210 mm tall, 7.2 in wide, and 4.3 in deep — a standard SENTRON 3VA frame size that fits the same mounting footprint as other 630 A 4-pole units in the family. Front face is IP40, which is typical for a panel-mounted MCCB; no special sealing for washdown. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) and 600 V DC max operational voltage (Ue) cover most industrial distribution voltages including 480/277 V and 600 V systems.
