630 A MCCB with TM240 release — what the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens 3VA1463-5EF42-0AC0 is a SENTRON 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous at 40 °C through 50 °C without derating — per the datasheet, it holds full rating across that ambient band. Above 50 °C the current tapers linearly to 583 A at 70 °C, which is the maximum operating temperature. The TM240 thermal-magnetic release handles overload and short-circuit protection in one package; the thermal element tracks load heating, the magnetic element responds to fault currents. Interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then to 75.6 kA at 500 V and 11.9 kA at 690 V — that spread tells you the part is sized for low-voltage distribution where high fault currents are expected at the service entrance or main switchboard level.
Physical integration and panel fit
Dimensions are 248 mm high, 184 mm wide, 110 mm deep — a standard footprint for a 630 A frame in the SENTRON 3VA platform. The 4-pole body occupies four module widths on a DIN rail or direct panel mount. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it suits 400 V and 690 V distribution panels with adequate clearance. Maximum power loss at rated current is 192.9 W — factor that into enclosure ventilation if the panel is sealed or densely populated.
Auxiliary and accessory configuration
The breaker ships with two factory-fitted HQ auxiliary switches (design of the auxiliary switch: 2 auxiliary switches HQ). No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring version, no communication function, and no voltage trigger are included on this variant. The supplied basic switch order code is 3VA14635EF420AA0 — useful if you need to order the bare switch separately for a panel build. Storage temperature range is -40 °C to 80 °C; operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C.
