What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 5SY5432-6 is a 4-pole miniature circuit breaker (MCB) with a B tripping characteristic, rated for universal current — meaning it handles both AC and DC circuits without derating the magnetic trip threshold. Rated 400 V AC (multi-phase or single-phase) and 880 V DC, it delivers 10 kA breaking capacity per IEC/EN 60898-2 and 15 kA per IEC 60947-2 on DC — enough to clear faults on most distribution panels and motor control centers without cascading upstream. The B-curve trips between 3 and 5 times rated current, making it a solid choice for protecting resistive and general-purpose loads where inrush is modest — lighting, heating, control transformers, and similar circuits in industrial panels.
Where it fits in the panel
Snaps onto DIN rail with the quick-assembly system, occupying 4 modular width units (72 mm wide). Installation depth is 70 mm; overall depth 76 mm leaves clearance for wiring in standard 80 mm deep enclosures. Mounts in any position, rated IP20 with connected conductors — fine inside a sealed panel but not for washdown zones. Sealable design (padlockable toggle) lets you lock out a circuit for maintenance without a separate lockout device. Combined top and bottom terminals simplify busbar and outgoing wiring; neutral conductor is not switched (solid neutral bar passes through).
Environmental and compliance
Rated for ambient temperatures from -40 °C to +75 °C, with humidity limits up to 95 % at 55 °C, derating to 35 % at 75 °C. Vibration resistance per IEC 60068-2-6 covers ±1 mm at 5–25 Hz and 50 m/s² at 25–150 Hz — tough enough for machine-mounted panels near rotating equipment. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction, overvoltage category II, pollution degree 2, energy limitation class 3. Complies with IEC/EN 60898-2 and UL1077 — the UL listing matters for North American panel builds that require recognized components.
