The Siemens SENTRON 5SY8616-7 is a 4-pole (3P+N) miniature circuit breaker with C-curve tripping characteristic, rated 30 kA breaking capacity per IEC 60947-2 and 5 kA per UL 1077. It switches the neutral conductor and accepts supply from either end — no orientation fuss during panel wiring.
That puts it in the high-fault category — suitable for industrial panels fed by transformers or distribution boards with high prospective short-circuit current. The 5 kA UL 1077 rating covers North American supplementary protection applications; the 15 kA DC rating at 60 V (max 72 V) handles DC control circuits or battery-backed loads.
C-curve and load selection
It's not for pure motor starting (use D-curve) nor for purely resistive heaters (B-curve would do). The 4-pole form with switched neutral is common in IT/TN-S systems where you want to isolate all conductors on a fault.
Vibration resistance per IEC 60068-2-6: ±1 mm at 5–25 Hz, 50 m/s² at 25–150 Hz.
