The 6GK1161-3AA01 is a current-production PCI Industrial Ethernet module from Siemens, purpose-built for connecting a PC or controller to PROFINET networks. DCP (Discovery and Configuration Protocol) is supported, making device commissioning and IP assignment straightforward in a Siemens automation environment. LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) is not included—standard topology detection via DCP covers most integration needs. Transfer rate is fixed at 10/100 Mbit/s, auto-negotiating. The module draws 0.45 A from the 5 V backplane rail and 0.5 A from the 12 V rail, with a total power loss of 4 W. Operating temperature range is 5 to 55 °C, storage and transport range -20 to +60 °C. The PCI form factor (21.6 mm width, 107 mm height, 167 mm depth) fits a standard slot; IP00 protection means it must be installed inside an enclosed host system.
Power and mounting
Supply is taken entirely from the PCI backplane—no external power connector needed. Verify that the host PC provides sufficient current on both 5 V and 12 V rails; the combined draw is under 1 A, but older or heavily loaded backplanes may need headroom verification. The module includes MIB support for SNMP v1 (not v3) and SICLOCK time synchronization. NTP is not supported. Software bundle for S7 communication (HARDNET-IE S7) and redundancy (HARDNET-IE S7-REDCONNECT) is required separately. Configuration tool is included with the software delivery.

The module carries CE marking, C-Tick, and safety certification to CAN/CSA C22.2 & UL 60950-1 and UL 1950. EMC compliance meets EN 61000-6-3/6-4 (emissions) and EN 61000-6-1/6-2 (immunity) under directive 2004/108/EC.
