Drive selection memo — FRN005AR1L-5U
The Fuji FRN005AR1L-5U is a FRENIC-HVAC series drive rated for 3-phase 575 V input and 5 HP output, housed in a NEMA Type 12 enclosure. This puts it squarely on a 575 V distribution system common in North American industrial plants — a 480 V drive won't work here, and a 600 V class drive is overkill. The NEMA 12 enclosure means it's built for indoor environments with dust and light oil mist; no need for an additional enclosure in a clean panel, but it's not rated for washdown.
What the NEMA 12 rating means for fit
NEMA Type 12 enclosure means the drive is sealed against falling dirt, circulating dust, and dripping non-corrosive liquids. In practice, this covers most control-room and machine-side installations that aren't directly hosed down. If the drive is going into a food-processing or washdown zone, you'd need a NEMA 4X or a separate stainless enclosure — the FRN005AR1L-5U's sheet-metal shell won't hold up to caustic spray.
