The OPC-E2-RS: The OPC--RS is a Communication Card that adds an RS485 serial interface to ACE Drives, specifically the FRENIC-Ace series. It mounts internally inside the drive enclosure.
The RS485 interface — what it buys you
RS485 is the workhorse fieldbus for multi-drop drive networks over twisted-pair. With this card, a FRENIC-Ace drive joins a daisy chain of up to 31 nodes on a single pair, talking Modbus RTU at typical baud rates up to 115.2 kbps. For a small shop running a few conveyors or pumps, it means one PLC or HMI can command start/stop, speed reference, and fault reset across the whole line without individual analog or digital wires back to each drive. The internal mount keeps the card protected inside the drive's own enclosure — one less box to panel-mount and one less cable gland to seal.
Physical fit — check the slot
At 4.7 in deep by 3.5 in tall, the card fits inside the standard option slot on FRENIC-Ace drives. The internal mounting means you don't eat up DIN rail or panel space — it's tucked away behind the drive's keypad or cover. Before ordering, confirm your specific FRENIC-Ace frame size has the option slot populated (most do from the factory, but some economy variants ship without the connector header).
