50 ms sampling — what it buys the loop
The PXF9APR2-MBVA1: The 50 ms sampling speed means this controller updates its PID calculation every 50 milliseconds. For a temperature loop with a process dead time of, say, 2 seconds, that gives 40 samples per dead-time period — enough to resolve the process response without injecting phase lag from the controller itself. A slower-sampling controller (200 ms or more) would add dead time to the loop, forcing you to detune the integral term to keep stability. Self-tuning is built in — the controller runs a step test on startup and sets the PID gains automatically. On a thermal system with a known time constant, this gets you within 10–15 % of the optimal tuning in one cycle, which is usually close enough for production. You can still override the gains manually if the process has a non-linear gain profile (e.g., an electric kiln with a cold start vs. a steady-state hold).
Panel fit and DIN footprint
1/4 DIN cutout is 92 x 92 mm — the standard panel opening for this form factor. The 96 x 96 mm bezel overhangs the cutout by 2 mm per side, which is the usual clearance for gasket sealing. Depth behind the panel is roughly 100 mm including the terminal block; allow 120 mm for wiring bend radius if you are running 14 AWG thermocouple extension wire.
