400 V class, 17.0 A ND — the FR-E800 compact
The Mitsubishi Electric FR-E840-0170-4-60 is a 400 V class AC drive from the FR-E800 series, rated 17.0 A in normal-duty (ND) mode. That 17.0 A ND current is the continuous output the drive can deliver to a motor at rated conditions — the number you use for sizing the motor branch circuit, not the peak or short-time rating. Three-phase input is standard for this 400 V class frame. The drive ships with circuit board coating as standard, which matters if the panel environment sees condensation or mild airborne contaminants — the coating adds a barrier against tracking and corrosion on the control board.
The 17.0 A ND rating at 400 V class means this drive is sized for a motor load drawing around 17 A at full load — typical for a 7.5 kW (10 HP) four-pole motor at 400 V. The ND rating is the ceiling for continuous duty; if the application requires overload for starting or intermittent high-torque, the drive's electronic thermal protection handles that within the ND envelope. The rated frequency initial setting is 50 Hz, which is the default output frequency for the drive at power-up. If the motor is 60 Hz rated, the parameter must be changed during commissioning — the drive itself supports both, but the factory default is 50 Hz. Monitoring output is voltage at terminal AM, a standard analog output for speed or load indication. The safety stop signal is source logic (fixed) — that means the safety input expects a 24 V DC source signal to enable the drive, which is the common configuration for safety relays and PLC safety outputs in a 24 V control system.
