Integrator's note on the MR-J4-10B
The Mitsubishi MR-J4-10B is a MELSERVO-J4 series servo amplifier rated for 0.1 kW motor output, drawing a rated current of 0.9 A from a single-phase or three-phase AC200 V to 240 V supply at 50/60 Hz. It uses sinusoidal-wave PWM current control and communicates over an SSCNET III/H motion network, which means it drops into a Mitsubishi motion system with deterministic cycle times — no pulse-train step-loss worries on a high-speed pick-and-place or a rotary knife. The built-in dynamic brake stops the motor on a fault or STO event without an external braking resistor for most inertial loads up to this frame size. STO (Safe Torque Off) per IEC/EN 61800-5-2 is standard, with a diagnostic coverage of 97.6% (medium DC level) — enough for SIL 2 / PL d safety circuits guarding a hazard zone.
The amplifier is self-cooled with an IP20 open-type enclosure — it needs clearance above and below for convection airflow inside a panel. Rated for indoor use only, no corrosive gas or oil mist, and up to 2000 m elevation. Ambient humidity must stay at or below 90% RH non-condensing. Vibration resistance is 5.9 m/s² over 10 to 55 Hz in each axis.
Protection and diagnostics
Protective functions cover over-current, regenerative overvoltage, overload (electronic thermal), motor overheating, encoder errors, undervoltage, instantaneous power failure, overspeed, and excessive error. The drive recorder and machine diagnostic functions log fault events — useful for a field-service tech trying to catch an intermittent stall on a conveyor index.
