Non-Contact Door Switch for Guard Monitoring
The Omron D40A-1C5 is a non-contact door switch from the D40A series, designed for monitoring guard positions on machinery. The IP67 protection class means the switch body and cable entry are sealed against dust ingress and temporary water immersion — suitable for washdown environments or outdoor cabinet applications where moisture is present.
The 10 mA output rating at 24 V DC is a low-current signal-level output, not a power-switching contact. It interfaces directly with a PLC digital input or a safety relay input module — not with a motor contactor coil. The PNP (sourcing) output is common in European-style control panels; verify your input card is configured for sourcing (positive-switching) inputs. Power consumption of 0.6 W keeps the thermal load negligible inside a control cabinet. The 5-wire, 5-meter cable provides power (two wires for supply and 0V), the PNP output, and typically two additional wires for a diagnostic or auxiliary output. The 5 m length is generous for mounting on a swing gate or sliding door where the switch travels with the guard.
Mounts directly on the machine frame or guard panel using the 48 x 13 x 25 mm body. No physical contact with the actuator target — the non-contact design eliminates wear from repeated door cycles. The PBT resin housing is impact-resistant and suitable for industrial environments where occasional knocks occur. The 5-meter cable routes through a cable gland or into a junction box near the door hinge. Keep the cable away from high-current power cables to avoid induced noise on the 24 V DC signal pair.
The D40A-1C5 is classified at a mature lifecycle stage.
