Panel cutout and wiring decision
The Omron E5CC-QQ3A5M-003 is a 1/16 DIN process and temperature controller that fits a standard 45.00 mm x 45.00 mm square panel cutout. The screw-terminal termination means no special crimp tooling on the line — strip and torque to the terminal block. It accepts universal inputs: RTD (Pt100), thermocouple types B, E, J, K, L, N, PLII, R, S, T, U, W, plus 0~20 mA and 0~10 VDC process signals. That range covers -200°C to 2300°C, so one part number handles furnace thermocouples and chilled-water RTDs without a separate signal conditioner.
Outputs and control loop
Three relay outputs handle alarm, event, or auxiliary control, and two voltage-pulse outputs drive external SSRs for the heating and cooling legs. That split is typical for a dual-loop or heat-cool application where the relays carry the on/off events and the SSR outputs modulate the power elements. Control method is selectable between on/off and proportional (PID). The PID autotune is standard on the E5CC series — the controller learns the process dynamics on first run and sets gains without a manual Ziegler-Nichols calculation.
Fieldbus and diagnostics
RS-485 communications support both Omron CompoWay/F and Modbus RTU protocols. That means it drops into a Modbus RTU network directly — no gateway or protocol converter needed between the controller and the PLC. The heater fault detection feature monitors current draw on the load and flags a broken heater or SSR short. On an oven or extruder barrel, that alarm prevents a cold zone from going unnoticed until the product is scrap. The dual-color LCD backlight shows four characters per row in two rows, with the main PV in 0.600" digits and the SV in 0.280" digits — readable from across a panel.
The IP66-rated front panel withstands washdown splashes and dust ingress, so it suits food-and-beverage or pharmaceutical panel environments where a standard IP54 controller would need a separate cover. Sourced to order against the BOM quantity.
